Hello World! A Letter from the Editor

Hello! I am excited about the launch of Neurished: A brain wellness brand. We have a lot of exciting things planned and will be working to provide fun and engaging information to improve cognitive and mental health. But first, I wanted to introduce myself and give a brief overview of some of the things we have planned at Neurished.

A little about myself to get us started. My name is Gregory Brown, and I am the Editor-in chief at Neurished. I also am an MD/PhD student at Penn State University.

For those who don’t know what a dual degree MD and PhD program is, it means that I am training to be a physician scientist. On the research side of things, I am getting a PhD in neural engineering. I study how brain circuitry changes in cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative disease. I am also in medical school getting an MD to become a neurologist to treat cognitive impairment.

I have positioned position myself at the intersection of neuroscience and engineering, enabling me to tackle important clinical problems with the latest technological advancements. I have a unique perspective on translating scientific research into clinical solutions to help improve the brain healthspan.

I have embarked on this path because I always have had an eager curiosity to understand how the world works, particularly the brain. I remember wiggling my fingers when I was young and thinking about how easily my brain could control fine movements.

Similar to most engineers, I also like computers and machine learning. Still, I have focused on cognition, because, although the brain is the greatest super-computer, it is also a living organ with brain cells and blood vessels. There is nothing artificial about human intelligence.

I recognize that it is extremely rare that a single scientist changes the world, but I hope to make contributions that will integrate with those of others and ultimately help people live longer and healthier lives.

Being an MD/PhD student also means that I have been in school for many years, and I have many more years to go. I have learned some valuable information about the brain over the years, and I hope to share this information with the general community. In science, we talk about disseminating knowledge, which usually means publications in journals. But I recognize many people do not read the journals or keep up with current medical knowledge.

Much of what I share with patients could be easily transitioned into educational content to share with everyone. But taking care of your brain shouldn’t be a burden or a chore. I am passionate about cognitive and mental health, and I want to kindle a similar enthusiasm for brain wellness in the community. The content from Neurished should be fun and engaging with simple and concrete tools to improve brain health.

This is why we started Neurished, a brain wellness brand working to increase your brain healthspan by delivering fun but informative content on cognitive and mental health.

So that brings me to what this content that we’re going to bring you actually is. This is the fun stuff. Topics will cover sleep, pop culture, emotional intelligence, mindfulness, etc. We will initially be generating articles and podcasts.

Some of our contributors include a tech insider who will discuss the latest coming out of the healthcare industry. We have a political analyst who will be looking into the healthcare policy of the candidates coming up in the next election. We also have a mindfulness guru to walk through some deep breathing techniques and meditation.

We’re ecstatic about the launch of Neurished. Please check out getneurished.com for what we are up to and sign up for the newsletter. You can find the Neurished Brain Wellness podcast on the website or any of your preferred streaming services. Please like and subscribe. Also follow us on Instagram, facebook, and twitter.

Stay Neurished!

Gregory Brown,
Editor-in-Chief
